IATP on In Good Hands

Background

Due to chemical-heavy farming techniques and deforestation, we are experiencing what some experts have dubbed a “soil crisis.” Soil plays a key role in absorbing carbon and filtering water, and if current rates of degradation continue, all of the world's top soil could be gone within 60 years.

Area of Focus

IATP works at the intersection of climate and agriculture to advocate for policies and approaches that empower farmers and rural communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, help farmers and communities adapt, and advance a fair and just transition toward more climate resilient, agro-ecological systems for farmers and rural communities.

Episode Brief

Tara Ritter, IATP’s Senior Program Associate for Climate and Rural Communities, joins Peter on this week’s episode to discuss:

  • The causes of soil degradation

  • How and why soil is connected to the climate crisis

  • The promise of regenerative agriculture

  • Fighting climate change with farmers

  • Working with legislators to help farms transition to climate-resilient systems
